Parody: Venomous Snakebites Can Be Painful, Says Expert

KUALA LUMPUR--A team of researchers from the University of Manchester reported that snakebites can be painful, especially those delivered by venomous snakes.

Rose Takbodoh, associate professor of herpetology and the principal investigator of the study commented that snakebites can be extremely excruciating thanks to their razor sharp teeth and in some cases, a pair of enormous fangs.

"We noticed that victims brought in for snakebites displayed signs of agony," she said.

"One particular victim, Jason, was suffering from heart failure after bitten by his pet cobra. We monitored him for a few hours and were told by the nurse that he couldn't even speak, which was quite remarkable given that the snake didn't actually bite his lips."

Takbodoh said that further studies revealed that some snakebites can even kill.

"We didn't know a creature of such stature could actually deliver a bite lethal enough to kill a man, I mean, some of us got bitten by larger animals such as dogs and survived."

She further commented that an inquisitive pet can fall victim to a snake. If bitten, a dog usually suffers the bite on its face or nose, while cats tend to be nicked on their paws, she explains.

"The area that has been bitten will begin to swell almost immediately, and that's a tell-tale sign to look for," she notes. Venom can spread quickly inside the animal, and kidney failure can result within 12 to 24 hours, which is why a bitten animal needs immediate treatment.
